Computer science students learn computer theory, programming, environments, algorithms, security and data transfer, etc. Computer engineering students learn how to develop, prototype, and test microchips, circuits, processors, conductors, and any other components used in computer devices or systems. (e.g. supercomputer, smartphone, laptop, server, IoT widget). They also develop firmware, an essential type of software that allows operating systems and applications to optimize hardware.
difference
between computer science and computer science engineering
Computer scientists work with computer theories, powerful
algorithms and mathematical models used to develop software programs and
systems. Instead, computer engineers develop the hardware and firmware that run
software and systems.
