A
structured cabling system is a complete system of cabling and supporting
hardware, providing a complete telecommunications infrastructure. This
infrastructure serves a wide range of uses, such as the provision of telephone
services or the distribution of data over a computer network. It should not be
machine dependent.
We
also describe a proprietary structured cabling system. A structured cabling
system starts at the point where the service provider (SP) ends. This point is
the identification point (demarc) or network interface device (NID).
